HISTORY | STAFF | DIRECTORS | ADVISORY | TRIBUTE | FINANCIALS
From late-2007 and throughout 2008, a primary goal of Healing HEART Sanctuary (HHS) has been to expand the roster of its Board of Directors. We’ve been evaluating which skills and expertise the Board currently has as well as which skills and experience would enhance our Board’s contributions.
If you think you might be interested in joining the HHS Board of Directors, we’d be pleased to hear from you.
Our current Board and their expertise include:
A summary of the experience and skills each Board of Director brings is outlined here.
Laurel Ley, Interim
Chairman of the Board; Chair, Marketing and Communications
Committee
HHS Field
Manager for the PetSmart Charities® Emergency Relief Waggin’®
Laurel Ley was raised and educated in Silicon Valley,
and has nine years of experience at Leo Burnett, a multi-billion dollar-a-year,
international advertising agency. She brings to any venture she’s
involved with a world-class project management background, having worked
on multiple brands and/or projects for two of the top five brands in
the world at the time. She has an extensive background in working with
multiple organizations and/or individuals on a single project; and
as such, has developed a training and communication skill that brings
together disparate personalities to achieve a common goal in an effective
manner. Laurel also spent a number of years consulting with start-up
companies and assisting them in their strategic development as well
as web and marketing exposure. All who come in contact with her benefit
from Laurel’s drive to deliver a project that is strategically
on target and provides a positive user experience, while achieving
design and production excellence.
A lifelong animal person, an animal advocate, rescue volunteer,
and experienced foster home for Dachshund
rescue, for many years Laurel has been an active force in
animal response and rescue since Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
During that time, she volunteered her time for seven months and
worked across 50+ groups, in at least 20 states. What she brings
to the animal field is her unique project management skills and
business orientation.
Through Laurel, HHS is the contractor for PetSmart Charities
managing Field Services for its Emergency
Relief Waggin’ program to provide trained volunteers
to distribute much needed supplies for displaced animals as well
as their human rescuers and caregivers, directly after a large-scale
natural or man-made disaster. Most of the materials about the
program and all of the materials related to volunteers were developed
by Laurel. What PetSmart Charities has come to rely on is the
quality of program and personnel development Laurel brings and
is consistent with the professional reputation of PetSmart Charities.
When she’s home, she lives in Jacksonville, Florida with
her husband Jim; five Dachshunds Tiffany, Blaze, Tuna, Prince,
and Miss America; Bellissimo, the rescue cockatiel; Celt, the
Border Collie from Hammond, Louisiana following Katrina and Rita;
and often some foster Dachshund or other.
Dawn Ferry, Vice-President
As a Founder, Dawn has been with Healing HEART Sanctuary since its inception; and later when Laura Bradshaw and
Sheba, our first "client", met.
For many years, Dawn has been involved in rescue work with animals
in a number of capacities; everything from acting as a simple
shelter volunteer to waiting for help at 2 a.m. for an injured
Rottweiler found in the middle of the road. In this particular
instance, HHS Founder Andy Stallman and Dawn
waited for a vet to arrive while dealing with the police, who
were trying to shoot the dog fearing it would attack anyone who came near.
Animals in need are not Dawn's only passion. Dawn has been a voice for those less able to speak for themselves and be heard. She is on the board of HAND TO HAND, a feeding program which services the poor and homeless of Santa Monica. Dawn also serves as the program/ media liaison for all of the Westside feeding programs of Los Angeles. Her responsibilities include speaking with the press, acting as their voice in court, representing them in court, and during negotiations with the Santa Monica City Council to move two of the programs (HAND TO HAND & Helping Other People Eat) from outdoors to an indoor facility. Dawn also assumed the role of mediator when "The Urban Institute" was hired by Santa Monica to assess the homeless situation in the city.
Linda Bradshaw, Secretary
Linda Bradshaw is
currently the Executive Secretary for the President of AT&T Long Distance in Dublin, California. She has also been the Board Secretary for the last eight years for the Masquer’s
Playhouse, a non-profit theatrical organization in Pt. Richmond,
CA. Linda is a long-time supporter of animal rescue organizations.
While not a founder herself, she was involved with Healing HEART Sanctuary during
its formation. And over the years, has extended herself personally to make sure that HHS has what it needs to survive and thrive.
Linda understands the ins-and-outs of the organization as only someone with her general business background and her participation with the sanctuary can. She brings both a long-term perspective combined with a short-term practicality.
