Cha Cha: The Magical
Sadly, Cha Cha’s story started out much the same as many
other rescued dogs. Gotten as a puppy, chained in the yard, forgotten,
abused, and neglected. Then set free to roam only to get hit by
a car.
Where her story differs is in what happened after that. Saved,
rehabilitated, and given a new chance at life, love, and happiness.
You couldn’t have made a Hollywood film with more twists
and turns. Thank goodness it has a “Fairy Tail” ending!
Cha Cha came to Healing HEART Sanctuary a broken dog, which
is ironic since she’d already had $6,000 dollars worth
of repairing. She was paralyzed from the car encounter, had already
had extensive therapy of all kinds, a cart with which to move around in, and had a broken heart.
You see while on the chain she dreamed of a person to call her
own who would love her and take her everywhere and make her their
life, and she found it. After getting hit by the car her owner
was going to shoot her, when an angel appeared (a concerned neighbor).
She was given permission to take Cha Cha and for the next few
months preceded to make Cha Cha her life by spending every possible
hour of every day trying to fix her broken body. Cha Cha was
in Heaven. But, alas, the angel couldn’t keep her. A Founder
at Best Friends was called and he called Healing HEART Sanctuary
for assistance.
Within a few days Cha Cha arrived at HHS and for the first few
months, Executive Director
Laura Bradshaw followed
Cha Cha around picking up the pieces of her broken heart. Cha
Cha was devastated and her will to live and get better was even
lower. Finally, one day it was like she just woke up and said, “Well,
I’m here, I might as well and see what this place is all
about.” The first time she barked (six months after arrival)
Laura just about had a heart attack, as Cha Cha had never had
a voice or an opinion before. She began to play with Laura and
then slowly began to play with the other dogs. Cha Cha started
to smile and she started to glow. Since then, she’s never
stopped.
Cha Cha travels with Laura quite frequently now; and everywhere
she goes Cha Cha creates a wake of smiles. None of us have ever
seen anything like it. She heals hearts on a whole different
dimension.
In fact, Cha Cha is so perfect as an ambassador to demonstrate the
able-ness and happiness of animals with disabilities that she
will be the Honorary Chairman for the Chariots
of Fur program. And she’s looking forward to taking
on her responsibilities with the joy she approaches life.
